To make Floradix, iron gluconate, one of the most absorbable forms of iron, is fed to brewer's yeast. The iron is incorporated into the yeast's cell wall, further enhancing its absorption. Contrast this with animal-sourced (heme) iron, which continues to absorb at a rate of 20% even when iron stores are adequate.
