Out of all the supplements I’ve sold in the past 6 years, this giant among nutrients has been said to contribute to exceptional results. Magnesium is a macromineral and part of a group called electrolytes. Electrolytes form a solution in water and conduct electricity through ionization, which is crucial for the brain and central nervous system as well as heart health. Specifically, the diverse role of magnesium in biological functions includes some 300 enzymatic reactions!  Converting amino acids (protein) and other food into energy requires a magnesium-based enzyme or kinase. Therefore magnesium is essential for cell growth, reproduction and repair as well as creation of new strands of DNA. Magnesium also assists in regulating blood flow, relaxing muscles, including the heart muscle, maintaining optimal blood pressure and helping the heart pump. Symptoms indicating a magnesium deficiency might include hyperkinetic behavior, neuromuscular convulsions like leg cramps, heart arrhythmia, depressed immune response, anxiety and inability to sleep. RDAs of magnesium depend on age & gender, but approximately 400mgs for adults is suggested. There’s a variety of ways to get magnesium; in the form of capsules, tablets and powders mostly bound to different compounds like citrate or glycinate (two absorbable forms). Also, the “ionic” powdered form that is mixed in water is very effective and quickly absorbed.

David W., magnesium is only one of the electrolyte minerals & it can't really replace the whole panel of electrolytes needed after exercising. However, there are so many better drinks than Gatorade. We have an excellent electrolyte product called "Ultima." Formulated specially for the Atlanta Summer Olympics, it comes in 4 flavors, has no sugar that interferes with the delivery of the minerals & is deliciously effective. Try the lemonade flavor, it quenches your thirst when weather really heats up like it does in LA. It's an awesome elite product! Magnesium is still important & many folks in our modern culture are deficient in this crucial mineral. Thank you for your question.

Heather, you are one savvy customer to already be taking this supplement! Tell everyone you know about the great benefits of magnesium, especially in the ionic fizz form. I have had many people tell me that taking magnesium has changed their lives. Some folks are taking large quantities of powdered magnesium in the Albion mineral form to help with asthma with very exciting results. Thanks for your comments.

Is this Magnesium Plus product a good replacement for sugary sports drinks like gatorade?

Great article! One of my favorite supplements as I've been taking this for years - glad to know that the ionic fizz now has 2 new flavors for us non-tart drinkers!
