Natural oils have many properties that promote healthy skin and hair. When combined, these oils can be a fantastic compliment to any hair and skin care regimen. Experimenting with different oils for my son’s problem skin has led me to this nice recipe for a body oil that is mostly coconut oil but it remains liquid and can be used in a little spray bottle for easy dispensing.
(Coconut oil turns solid at about 75 degrees or lower)
2 heaping tbl coconut oil
1tbl macadamia nut oil
1-2 tbl castor oil
Melt these oils together in a “double boiler” made of two plastic bowls, one with hot water and the other holding the oils.
Once melted and stirred, I added the following oils for their benefits to the body:
1 tsp sea buckthorn oil for omega 7
10 drops of tea tree oil for antimicrobial properties
5 drops of grapefruit seed oil for antimicrobial properties
½ tsp vitamin e oil for, yep, you guessed it, vitamin e.
And my favorite essential oils for fragrance and antimicrobial properties to boot.
Orange oil, cinnamon oil, and clove oil.
Using a funnel I poured the oils into a little dollar store spray bottle and printed out a homemade label for it. If it starts to go solid after it cools, add a little more castor oil and give it a shake.
As always, assess your own tolerance to any product for allergic reactions. A little of your own research into the wonderful properties of natural oils will have you abandoning your regular body care products, just like me!
