One of the best health news stories that ever came out was the one about how cocoa is good for you. Am I right? Who wasn’t totally stoked to hear that? The incredible health properties of cocoa were revealed in a way that all women everywhere clearly, intuitively, knew to be true. Did you know that the Kuna Amerinds, an indigenous tribe off the coast of Panama, have been drinking up to 40 cups of fresh cocoa per week and, according to Harvard University studies, experience 1/9 the rate of heart disease as mainlanders? Cocoa in chocolate is delicious, no doubt about that, but it also has the added deliciousness of sugar, cream, cholesterol, saturated fat and calories. Calories that we (being the health-conscious girl that we strive to be) so do not want. In excess of course.
One night, while my friends and I were restoring ourselves with resveratrol in a now-sacred rite known as “book club” I left behind a liquid cocoa for my friend LDM to try. I had expounded at length about the health benefits of cocoa and she’s a good sport. I was pretty sure I mentioned the need for a mix into a hot drink and sweeten but I probably forgot (seeing how it was book club night and all). A couple of days later I received an email with the subject line of, “Is this some kind of sick joke?” After I recuperated from all the laughing I began a search for a cocoa that would be easy to use and that would not result in my good name being drudged through the cyber-mud. The CocoaWell from ReserveAge came at the most timely moment. It contains an organic, fair trade cocoa and high potency flavonol complex with green tea and acacia catechu. Now the health properties of cocoa could be had without it being a sick joke!
